One of my favorite weeks is this particular week because it is (you guessed it) .  . .LIBRARY WEEK!   All classes will visit the library to check out books.  I love seeing all the new and familiar faces as the students come to the library for the first time.

For PK and Kinder, we are going to treat our books like babies this year and hug them and love them.  We'll also learn how to care for our books from our friend Mr.Wiggles.

In 1st and 2nd grade, we'll have fun checking out books by using our shelf markers!  We'll also see why pigeons should not be in the library.  If you want to see why, check out this video.

3rd and 4th grades will review library procedures by competing in Library Jeopardy!

Packing- Week 1

The tables and chairs are gone and are replaced with lots of orange bookcases, and right now, we are busy collecting and shelving books.  While we are beginning a big project which can be a little daunting, today, I was touched to realized that library does mean a lot to our Ponder students.  I had at least three students stop me today and tell me how sad they were about missing library time.  I hate to hear that my students are sad, but my heart is warmed by the fact that students are not just missing me.  The big thing is that they are missing books and stories.  So, parents and teachers, please, in my absence, keep reading to our students!

Time to pack!

This week will be our last week of library classes before the move!  While I'm going to miss having story time with our students during the next couple of weeks, I know that our students are going to keep on reading by exploring our online resources.  What's great is that these ebooks are free and accessible through the Ponder Library webpage.

Check it out!
(Ha! Ha!  That's my library humor coming out).

If you need help, please feel free to e-mail me (Mrs. Campbell) at dyanncampbell@misdmail.org.  While I'm unable to post online the usernames and passwords, I am able to send you the username and password for these programs if your student attends Alice Ponder.

Michael Anthony Steele visits Ponder

Thank you, PTA for making it possible for Alice Ponder students to visit with author and screen writer, Mr. Michael Anthony Steele.

We learned about Mr. Steele's career as a writer from working on Barney to Wishbone to Night at the  Museum.  Writers are important, and we can be better writers by reading.  Also, Mr. Steele talked about believing in four important words.  Ask your students to share with you those four important words.

If you would like to learn more about Mr Steele or ask him a question, you can go to his website at www.michaelanthonysteele.com .

Pumpkins!

We've got pumpkins in the library!  We are off to a great start for this year's Pumpkin Book Character contest with over 30 entries.  Below are just two of the fabulous pumpkins that our students have decorated for our contest this year.

Book Character Pumpkins

Don't forget to decorate a pumpkin as your favorite book character.  We'll have them set out this week in the library and vote for our favorite pumpkin.

Deer, Raccoons, & Skunks

Fiction and Nonfiction

Most of the time in the library, we read a lot of fictional stories together, but this week, we read a nonfiction book about deer.  The students loved the photographs and learning facts about deer.  Did you know that deer can swim?  We didn't, but we do now!

While the book was amazing, the best part came at the end of story time when we opened the trunk that the Texas Wildlife Agency sent to us.  We had three pelts that we got to touch and discuss.  Now, that was a real experience!  Fiction is fun, but nonfiction can be awesome.
